Since then, it has rapidly diversified into various sectors of the Tanzanian economy. Today Demeter group is involved in Automotive spares, Fertilizers, Pesticides, Agro inputs, Human and Veterinary health, Cotton ginning, Coffee Processing, Organic Vanilla farming and processing, Hot Steel Rolling and manufacturing, Sisal farming and processing, Commodity trading and processing and cultivation of Artemisia for anti malarial medicine.

Dar-Es-Salaam and Mbeya braches are covering central and southern Tanzania, focusing on Maize, vegetables, Cereals, Sugarcane farm, Cocoa, Tea , Coffee and Timber. These branches are handling fertilizer bulk distribution with association Yara Norway.

Mtwara Branch is specialized in cashew farming and serving all segments of cashew nut growers. Branch has its own Research and development facilities like Cashew- nut Nursery and trail fields. Branch provides full assistance on Technical Know- how on cashew nut cultivation and on Plant protection. Branch is fully equipped with retail, wholesale facilities, Bulk warehouse, vehicles and van for promotion. The team includes Foreign and Local Agronomists. This branch is associated with Cashewnut Board of Tanzania and Rural level cooperative societies.

Equatoria Africa Limited

The company was formed in 2001 and is active in Public and Animal health. Products are imported from Teva Group of companies; Norbrook laboratories UK Limited; Parnell laboratories (Aust) Pty Limited. With the expertise and support extended by these multinationals we are able to bring genuine products at very economical prices. We currently have a tea of veterinary professionals who are stationed in Arusha, Mwanza, Mbeya and Dar e salaam who assist with vaccinations and advice.

Equatoria is now diversifying into water purification products for safe drinking water in Tanzania. We also have sole agency for marketing long lasting insecticide treated bed nets for mosquito control and represent several multinationals manufacturing vector control products and hygienic products for hospitals and institutions.

Equatoria is also looking into marketing safe sex products to control sexually transmitted diseases as per the national government policy.

Lintex (Tanzania) Ltd

Established in 1995, Lintex was one of the ginneries to buy and process seed cotton in Tanzania. The company procures unprocessed cotton from the farmers in 300 villages around Mara, Mwanza, Shinyanga and Tabora regions. The ginnery is located in Kwimba District, Mwanza region. The cotton lint produced compares with the best in Tanzania. The company sells lint cotton to various international merchants from Europe, Asia, Far East and Africa as well as to local and regional textile mills.

The ginnery comprises of 26 jumbo roller gins with a capacity to produce 250 bales (220kg per bale) per day during the season.

Towards the end of the cotton season, the company buys yellow grams, green grams etc from the framer (who normally uses the land to grow these crops after the cotton crop). The grams purchased are usually exported to India and the Middle East.

Mara Coffee Ltd

Mara coffee ltd is a major buyer of Hard Arabica coffee in Tarime, Mara region, Tanzania. We annually process and export approximately 2000 tones of conventional Hard Arabica coffee, mostly to European markets.

With a long-term vision to increase the size of the crop in the region, Mara coffee has been supplying coffee seedlings free of cost to farmers. So far over 500000 coffee seedlings have been distributed to farmers. We are also supplying agro inputs such as Pesticides, Insecticides, Sprayers, tarpaulins etc at a subsidized price to farmers who are growing non-organic coffee. In 2000, Mara coffee also won the best coffee quality award in Hard Arabica presented by the Tanzania Coffee Board.

In 2007, Mara coffee jointly with AgroEko, A Swedish based NGO has set up an organic coffee out grower scheme in the Mara region, with over 600 farmers practicing. IMO (institute Fur Maktologie) is the regulatory body that shall certify the coffee as organic. The first crop shall be certified as fully organic by mid 2008, which will be for export.

Regal Crop Ltd

Regal Crop Limited was incorporated in 1995. The company is based in the town of Bukoba, Kagera Region, Tanzania, west of Lake Victoria (the largest fresh water lake in Africa). Similar to the activities of its associate Company Mara Coffee who also buys and processes Arabica coffee on the east side of Lake Victoria.

Agriculture Farms

Mukpar has also bought up large Banana farms at Bukoba and Dar Es Salaam with the intention of producing the best quality for the best price and for company’s in house training and trails under a keen supervision of its sound technical team.

Cashew Project - Mtwara:

Projects main objective is to improve the productivity of cashew in order to benefit the small holding farmers. The project is located in all strategic areas of Mtwara. The project is well coordinated with cashew nut board of Tanzania and rural co-operative societies to benefit,

Farmers to get higher yields and quality nuts with eventual higher incomes.
Traders will benefit from increased demand for farm inputs.
Processors will benefit from increased production with better quality nuts.
Will provide rural employment.
Additional revenue to Village Govt. Increase in Levy to District Authorities.

Future Plans of the project –

Phase II – Mukpar is going to start growing coffee and sugar cane seedlings in Mara, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya & Morogoro Regions.

Phase III – Mukpar is also planning to start Coconut and Eucalyptus Seedlings in Mafia, Bagamoya (Coast) Tanga, Linda & Mtwara Regions.

Westlake Agoproducts Ltd

Vanilla Farming
Vanilla farming native to the lowland forests of Central America and parts of northern America. It was already used by the Azetec before the Spanish saw and adopted it during their conquest. Within a comparatively short time it was introduced throughout the tropics. At present the main producing countries are Madagascar, Indonesia, Uganda, Uruguay, Jamaica amongst others. Vanilla was introduced in the Kagera region in 1997.

Westlake Agro products was established to deal with the organic vanilla products. The activities of the company are production, buying processing and export of vanilla. In order to assure sufficient production the business initiated plantation and will as work with out growers. The production at the plantation and from its out growers is on organic principles.

The 400 out growers contracted by us are not using chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. Their production can therefore be considered as organic by default and is certified and accredited by IMO.

Westlake Agro products are currently growing vanilla on an 8-acre site, situated in the Bukoba township area, Kagera Region, North Western Tanzania. The town is enjoying the good connections by road and air. Currently Westlake Agro products have contracted 400 out growers to grow organic vanilla. The out grower scheme is over seen by EPOPA (Export promotion of organic products from Africa) and organic certification is carried by IMO (Institute for market ecology).Due to the short span that Westlake Agro products have been active in vanilla, the companies current production is 1ton of vanilla. However, we anticipate by 2008 to be able to export up to 7tons of cured vanilla, with marginal increase in sequent years.

Sayona Steel Limited

Sayona steel is the latest addition to Demeter group. The company was incorporated in 2006 to manufacture metal products from scarp metal and billets.

A state of the art manufacturing facilities has been set up in Mwanza. The production capacity is 2400 metric tones of finished hot-rolled steel products per month. In addition the company also produces cut to measure mild steel plates.

By the year 2009 the company will install a galvanizing and cold rolling plant for the production of Galvanized sheets and products.

Auto Spares Mwanza Limited

Auto spares Mwanza is the founding company of Demeter Group. Incorporated in 1968, the company is a prominent name in the vehicle industry specializing in Automotive and industrial spares. ASML represents global manufacturers for items such as tyres, Batteries, industrial Equipments, etc. We are leading importers and service provider for all local industries.

Real Estate Business

Mukpar has recently started with one of its new sector of real estate. The company is acquiring land strategically as its initial investment in the business.

The company will basically concentrate on corporate buildings, residential buildings and tourist resorts to add to company’s strength.
